Ministerial Conference on Energy Security and Sustainability,  Maputo, Mozambique 28 – 30 March 2007

The Ministers Responsible for Energy in Africa convened under the Forum of Energy Ministers of Africa (FEMA) in Maputo on the 30th March 2007 to deliberate on energy security and sustainability in Africa. The Ministerial meeting was preceded by a meeting of Senior Officials from Ministries responsible for energy in Africa, representatives of Key Regional Institutions such as Regional Economic Commissions, power pools and Development Partners. The officials’ meeting was held from 28 -29 March 2007.

The conference which was officially opened by H.E Armando Emilio Guebuza, the president of the Republic of Mozambique, was attended by 167 participants from 32 African countries and 20 multilateral and bilateral development institutions from all over the world. 17 Ministers responsible for energy in Africa were present and 9 were represented. .

The Ministers used that opportunity to share experiences and to discuss a number of policy issues and actions needed to ensure energy security and sustainability in Africa. The Ministers agreed on a Ministerial declaration which contains recommendations made by the Ministers.
