The Forum of Energy Ministers in Africa (FEMA) was established to provide political leadership, policy direction and advocacy on energy issues, to increase access, better utilization and management of energy resources for a sustainable social and economic development of Africa.


The vision


The vision of the Forum is to achieve effective African and regional cooperation, social and economic development leading to poverty eradication in Africa through the promotion of environmentally sustainable use and management of energy resources.


The Mission


The Mission of the Forum is to provide political commitment, policy direction, experience sharing and advocacy in the provision, access, use and management of energy resources for sustainable social and economic development.


Objectives


Objectives for which this Forum has been established are to: -

  1. Raise the profile of the energy sector in national and regional planning to reflect its central role in achieving the Millennium Development Goals;
  2. Develop a coherent energy strategy for Africa including re-strategizing in order to increase modern energy supply and access;
  3. Promote a common approach expressed through specific, national and regional projects of benefit to African countries;
  4. Speak with a common voice and collectively advocate for the financing of regional projects; and
  5. Promote interconnectivity and the work of the five regional power pools, and develop common technical standards and codes of conduct.
