The Forum of Energy Ministers in Africa (FEMA) was established to provide political leadership, policy direction and advocacy on energy issues, to increase access, better utilization and management of energy resources for a sustainable social and economic development of Africa.
Realizing the importance of energy as the engine of development in Africa, crucial to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals; and that the level of coverage and access of modern energy is as low as 8%, the Energy Ministers of Africa resolved to form the Forum for Energy Ministers of Africa.
